The fabulous new Doodles Rubbing Plates are finally in the warehouse and ready to ship. Hooray! I had hoped to have them a month ago, but they are certainly worth the wait. As always, the plates are packaged with a header card that has a series of thumbnail images, so you can see what’s in […]
Oh my gosh! I just finished a quick test of the new Doodle plates and I am thrilled beyond words. OK — not quite beyond words — obviously, I’m still typing. The images are simply fantastic. (I’ll refrain from using the word “awesome” — my graphic artist would hang me!) But the new plates are […]
My mailbox was full of wonderful stuff this morning. In addition to my new rubbing plates, my copy of the October issue of Quilting Arts magazine arrived. Right inside the front cover is the ad announcing my new Rubbing Plate Roundup book. Rubbing Plate Roundup is a collection of twelve fantastic techniques for adding visual […]
The latest addition to our DesignMagic line has arrived and is ready to ship. You can go directly over to the Online Store to place your order. Like all Design Magic stencils, this is a pair of stencils. One stencil has the positive image and the other has the negative image. When you paint these […]
I’m really bad at keeping secrets, especially when I’m excited about something new! I drove up to visit our rubbing plate company yesterday to see the prototypes of our new Doodles plates. They’re absolutely gorgeous! When I make this trip, I take along a supply of fabric and paintstiks so I can test the designs […]
The new year will be here in just a few short days, and I can’t think of a better time to introduce our new Bubbles DesignMagic™ Stencils. If these don’t remind you a bit of champagne, I’m not sure what will!
I started this design and then handed it off to Matthew, my graphic designer. I liked it, but it needed something, and I couldn’t quite seem to figure it out. When I got the design back from Matthew, my first reaction was “Wow – Swiss cheese on steroids!” I made up a sample, loved it, and sent it off to the stencil cutters. Now how cool is that!
Celebrations aren’t just for the holidays. There are countless reasons to celebrate over the course of the year. We all have birthdays (whether we want them or not) and most of us have reason to celebrate weddings, anniversaries and other gift-giving events throughout the year.
To make a gift truly special, I like to wrap it up in a hand-made gift bag, preferably something that can be used more than once. And I really like the gift bag to match the occasion. Here’s an example I made from our Bosa Nova Bags pattern and the new Celebrate Stencils. And don’t forget about that new Lime green paintstik – I love that color!
As I look out the window, it’s truly starting to look like winter here in central Minnesota. We’ve got a fresh coating of snow and the air is full of big, fluffy snowflakes. It’s a perfect day to think about decorating for the holidays and it looks like weather this Thanksgiving weekend will be more suitable for hibernating in the sewing room than fighting the crowds at the shopping malls.
So I’ll pull out the paintstiks and a couple of our new sets of stencils and have some fun playing with gift bags and some simple decorations for the holidays. My graphic artist extraordinaire, Matthew Mills, did a fantastic job pulling some great images together for these stencils. The Ornaments are very classy and the variety of sizes works for large images and small. I hope you enjoy the new stencil designs as much as I do!
Well, amost anything goes… 🙂 No, I’m not talking about crazy parties, bad behavior or unlimited consumption during the holidays! Anything Goes is the name of my new tote pattern. It’s not as exciting as a dash down to the Bahamas for a spur of the moment vacation, but it’s a fantastic way to show […]
One of my all-time favorite days of the year is the day new paintstik colors arrive in our warehouse. It’s very exciting to see the actual product after months of discussion about exactly what shade of green, testing 14 versions of red (which don’t turn out the way I have my heart set on) and then figuring out what we should name them. After all the up-front work, I’m thrilled to announce “they’re here!!!”
The questions I’ve heard most frequently since we published Design Magic are “What is a DesignPack?” and “How do I use the DesignPack with my Design Magic book?” The DesignPack is a convenience item that we put together for readers and teachers. It contains pre-cut and pre-printed templates that allow you to jump right into […]
As part of my visit to Bernina University, I offered the dealers and shop owners a free DesignMagic stencil along with a free project. (More on the project at the end of the post.) I was really interested to see which of the 4 stencils (Safari, Scroll, Fractured-X or Wavy Squares) they would choose most frequently.
While all of the stencils were popular, 35% of the dealers chose the Scroll stencil to make the sample for their project. The most frequent comment was that they liked the circular lines of the design — often referred to as “curlicues.”
