I just want to thank you for your amazing article on perfectionism. I am a professional writer for a nonprofit organization and I definitely suffer from some of the issues you described here… especially what some people call analysis paralysis. In my art, on the other hand, I have been able to evolve recently into an attitude of “embracing the imperfect.” Rather than even trying to do projects that are dependent on perfection (perfectly straight lines, pristine surfaces, matched corners, etc.), I have decided to dive into projects that are grungier, off-center, frayed on the edges and so forth. This way, I am completely enjoying the process and the play of working with various media and not killing myself with worry that a project won’t turn out perfectly. Now I need to do this with my work! Thanks for the reminders!
